BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Northwest China's Qinghai is accelerating development of the lithium power industry chain and strengthening close cooperation with the domestic leading companies such as BYD and BAIC Motor.
At present, the lithium battery industry has become a strategic emerging industry in Qinghai, according to Wang Liming, Vice Governor of Qinghai Province, at a forum about the lithium industry and power battery, on Wednesday.
Qinghai has attached great importance to the development of the lithium battery industry and formulated a plan for development of the new materials to support the lithium industry during 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020).
The Province has put forward the goal of bringing its lithium carbonate capacity to about 120,000 metric tons (tonnes) by 2020.
Wang said that Qinghai has the unique salt lake resources. The Province's proven reserves of lithium resources account for more than one-third of the world's total, and more than 75 percent of the country's total, which offers an important guarantee for sustained and healthy development of lithium power industry.
