BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chilean media reported that China Three Gorges Corporation recently acquired Chilean company Atiaia Energía from Brazil’s Cornélio Brennand Group via its subsidiary China International Water & Electric Corp..
Atiaia Energía is building the Rucalhue hydropower project in Biobío Province of Chile, which has a designed installed capacity of 90 MW.
To complete the Rucalhue project, an additional 240 million dollars needs to be invested. The project has obtained environmental permit and construction permit for transmission lines, which allow it to start construction immediately.
The report also mentioned that Atiaia Energía originally planned to invest 1.2 billion U.S. dollars to build a 500 megawatt hydropower station in Chile, however, the company was sold due to the shortage of funds caused by the economic crisis in Brazil. The company also has a hydropower project on the Río Bueno River with a designed capacity of 170 megawatts, which is in the stage of feasibility studies.
