BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The State Grid Corp, one of China's two major power grid operators, and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) lately signed a cooperation agreement on the China-Nepal electricity networking feasibility study.
Under the agreement, the two sides would speed up project feasibility studies and advance new breakthroughs in Sino-Nepal power grid projects.
Nepali Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun said that the China-Nepal electricity networking project is an important project for energy cooperation between the two countries. The signing of the agreement is of great significance to the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the promotion of infrastructure integration in neighboring countries. The Ministry of Energy will fully support and cooperate with the State Grid Corporation of China in carrying out research work on the Sino-Nepal electricity grid.
State Grid started the pre-feasibility study of the project in 2016. It plans to build a DC back-to-back converter station on the border between China and Nepal, and build a converter station in Nepali capital Kathmandu.
