Abstract : There are 6,876 new companies applying for registration in Thailand, 313 companies or 5 percent more than the 6,563 companies in February 2019.

InfoQuest (April 26, 2019) -- Mr. Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, deputy director of the Department of Business Development of the Ministry of Commerce, reveals that, according to the business registration statistics released in March 2019, there are 6,876 new companies applying for registration, 313 companies or 5 percent more than the 6,563 companies in February 2019; and 148 companies or 2 percent more than the 6,728 companies in March 2018.

In terms of the registration number, the top three businesses are as follows in order: general construction, 604, accounting for 9 percent; real estate, 359, accounting for 5 percent; and restaurant, 185, accounting for 3 percent.

In the first quarter of 2019 (January to March), there were 20,750 new companies nationwide applying for registration, 4,912 companies or 31 percent more than the 15,838 companies in the fourth quarter of 2018; and 701 companies or 3 percent more than the 20,049 companies in the first quarter of 2018 (January to March).

In terms of the registration number in the first quarter of 2019, the top three businesses are as follows in order: general construction, 1,814, accounting for 9 percent; real estate, 1,126, accounting for 5 percent; and restaurant, 525, accounting for 3 percent.

In March 2019, there were 3,288 companies terminating their business activities, 6,871 companies or 68 percent less than the 10,159 companies in the fourth quarter of 2018, and 200 companies or 7 percent more than the 3,088 companies in the first quarter of 2018.

In terms of the termination number, the top three businesses are as follows in order: general construction, 360, accounting for 11 percent; real estate, 189, accounting for 6 percent; and management consulting, 89, accounting for 3 percent.

As of March 31, 2019, a total of 730,158 companies were operating nationwide, with the total capital of 16.59 trillion baht, among which there are 185,342 limited partnerships/general partnerships, accounting for 25.38 percent, 543,588 limited companies, accounting for 74.45 percent, and 1,228 listed companies, accounting for 0.17 percent.

According to the deputy director of the Department of Business Development, regarding the registration trend of new companies in Thailand, after the assessment of GDP growth, social development, economic trend, and the seasonal trend of business registration, the number of newly registered companies in April 2019 will be less than that in March 2019. Because there are more holidays in April, and corporate enterprises and the State Audit Office of Thailand are busy preparing annual financial reports needed to be submitted in May, which will result in fewer new company registrations this month, but the number of new companies is expected to be more than that in April 2018.
