Neos is carrying aids to the Red Cross and the Civil Protection

March 25, 2020

Abstract : After having taken home 17,000 travellers from all over the world, the airline owned by the group Alpitour has provided a humanitarian flight to carry the health material that the Italian hospitals need.

MILAN, March 24 (Class Editori) -- The Neos flight, which took off from Beijing, landed tonight at Milano Malpensa to carry aids to the Civil Protection and the Italian Red Cross.

On board 155 lung ventilators, 1,100,000 FFP2 and N95 masks, 305,000 single-use masks, 205,000 latex gloves, 1,000 diagnostic kits and 1,000 protective uniforms. This equipment has been partly purchased by the Civil Protection and partly donated by the Chinese Government and by many companies (Pirelli, Bank of China, China Construction Bank and China Development Research Foundation).

Neos wanted to use one of its 787 Dreamliner only to transport health material: a cargo flight with the first 25 tons of health aids and devices. The Nanjing airport as well as many Italian and Chinese companies have contributed to the initiative, donating more than 1.4 million masks, lung ventilators, respiratory devices, gloves, diagnostic kits and protective medical uniforms, in order to give new energy to the worn-out healthcare system. A part of the equipment will be directly donated to the Lombardy region, the most affected by the emergency, while the rest of the stock will be delivered to the Civil Protection, which will assign it to the hospitals most in need.

"The aircraft provided by Neos free of charge represents a gift from heaven, which has been added to the substantial donations and to the medical-health equipment supplies bought from China and loaded on board of this first cargo flight organized by the embassy", as Luca Ferrari- Italian Ambassador in China - has explained.

Since the beginning of the emergency until today, Neos has operated 71 rotations worldwide and has repatriated 16,721 people, 13,300 of which Italians, as well as French, German, Argentine, American and Chinese people. Yesterday evening, two more flights landed at Milano Malpensa from Buenos Aires in order to repatriate 500 Italians from Argentina and other flights scheduled from Lisbon and Canary Islands will arrive in the following days.
