Mattarella in China for end of Year of Culture and Tourism

February 03, 2020

Abstract : The visit of President Sergio Mattarella at the end of the year and the opening of a large exhibition at the Shanghai Museum dedicated to Caravaggio will be the culminating moments of a particularly important 2020 in relations between China and Italy.

MILAN, Jan. 24 (Class Editori) - The visit of President Sergio Mattarella at the end of the year and the opening of a large exhibition at the Shanghai Museum dedicated to Caravaggio will be the culminating moments of a particularly important 2020 in relations between China and Italy. Numerous initiatives will celebrate the 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries during the Year of Culture and Tourism.

The importance of the moment in bilateral relations has been at the center of the speech by Michele Cecchi, consul general of Italy in China, at the Members Meeting of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China which took place in Shanghai on January 18.

Among the many scheduled events, Cecchi recalled the importance for the Italian industry of the Fuori Salone during the Salone del mobile and the participation in the China International Import Expo (CIIE), both scheduled for November.

For the Year of Culture, the consul focused on the cult moment of the memory of the hundred years of Federico Fellini's birth during the Film Festival scheduled for June and the October music festival especially dedicated to opera and ballet, which the year last he had brought La Scala in Milan to China with great success.

About tourism, it has been underlined that the recent agreement between the authorities of the two countries in charge of air traffic - Caac and ENAC - to increase the weekly frequency of the Italy-China connections, both passengers and cargo, will indeed increase the tourist presence, especially of the Chinese in Italy.

That agreement was the result of a Cabina di regia between China and Italy that is planning the ongoing activities and that sees the Italian Chamber of Commerce assume an increasing importance in the relations between the Italian companies present in China also in relations with the institutional and association community.

For this reason, two Chinese speakers attended the meeting to present the opportunities offered in Shanghai to foreign companies.

Maddy Yang, deputy general manager sales & marketing center of the Lingang Free trade zone, showed the ongoing processes of liberalization of the area including the port of Yanshan, qualified with the reform of two years ago as Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The objective of the administration is to compete with Singapore and Hong Kong even if the existing procedures are still difficult, as those who work there can testify, compared to other realities. Nor can the example cited several times of the new Tesla installation be enough, which represents a new vision of the business but is limited to a very particular product that fits into the green vision of compatible development.

The other guest Jane Yang, project manager of the European department Shanghai foreign investment presented the opportunities and new policies to attract foreign investments in Shanghai, a city recognized as a place of excellence for doing business in China.

Mauro Anselmetto, managing director and CEO of Comau China (Exor group), Valtero Canepa, managing director of Braccosine (Bracco group) and Lorenzo Maffioli, managing director of Itema Cina, who explained the procedures and timing of the various benefits obtained, have also participated at the panel to talk about incentives, subsidies and facilities for foreign companies also by virtue of the new regulations on Foreign direct investments and regional headquarters.

The current board of the Chamber, with the introduction and greetings of the secretary general, Giulia Gallarati, followed by Valtero Canepa, Emanuela Vizzarro and Antonio Farese, reported what has been done in the past year and presented future plans while Carlo d'Andrea, on behalf of the European Chamber of Commerce he mentioned the survey relating to the involvement of European companies in BRI projects.

This spring there will be the new elections for the renewal of the chamber bodies and then start again focusing on the planned initiatives. The real unknown remains the onset of the new epidemic originated by the coronavirus which, if not solved, would lead to a certain slowdown in the economy. The same happened during the spring of 2003 at the outbreak of the Sars epidemic. So far, it's seem happening the same.
