Chinese ambassador says Egyptian-Chinese ties at "golden age"

December 06, 2019

Abstract : The relations between Egypt and China are at a "golden age," Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said on Thursday.

CAIRO, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The relations between Egypt and China are at a "golden age," Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said on Thursday.

The comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China has seen tremendous development in recent years, Liao said in a press conference held at the Chinese embassy in Cairo, noting that at the political level, the past year has witnessed frequent exchanges of high-level visits.

"Almost 30 Chinese delegations have visited Egypt in 2019 while Egypt has sent 20 delegations to China. The mutual visits have tackled cooperation in the trade, agriculture, technology and archeology fields," he said.

Liao added that China's trade and economic cooperation with Egypt grows rapidly in recent years, referring to TEDA industrial zone and the construction of the central business district in Egypt's new administrative capital as good examples of mutual cooperation.

"The volume of Chinese investment in Egypt amounted to 7 billion U.S. dollars," he said, adding that more than 1,500 Chinese companies are now operating in Egypt which provide 30,000 job opportunities for the Egyptians.

Liao pointed out that Egyptian agricultural products like orange, dates and grapes have been exporting to China and are highly praised by the Chinese people.

At the education level, China has provided more than 300 scholarships for Egyptians to finish master and PhD degrees in 2019, he said.

"As cooperation in the fields of education, science and technology continue to enhance and people-to-people exchanges become more frequent, we are confident that the bilateral ties between China and Egypt will go deeper," he added.
