First inbound intermodal freight train arrives in E.China's Xiamen

November 08, 2019

Abstract : A train fully loaded with 45 sets of 40-feet containers setting out from Novosibirsk in Russia to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam recently arrived at the transfer station in Xiamen, a city in east China's Fujian Province, opening a new intermodal logistic channel linking Xiamen with the rest of world.

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) – A train fully loaded with 45 sets of 40-feet containers setting out from Novosibirsk in Russia to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam recently arrived at the transfer station in Xiamen, a city in east China's Fujian Province, opening a new intermodal logistic channel linking Xiamen with the rest of world.

The inbound train has made Xiamen a two-way channel for intermodal transportation, moving a step forward in enhancing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The new intermodal logistic channel offered a more efficient transportation alternative for this trip, which will take to reach Vietnam, saving about ten days compared with traditional transports.

The enhanced operation of intermodal transport in Xiamen was attributed to the efforts made by local authorities on expediting procedures such as simplified formalities and optimizing service standards.

By far, Xiamen has opened five direct freight train routes connecting with European countries, and launched 560 China-Europe freight trains, transporting goods with a value of 108 billion yuan, official data showed.

It is noted that Xiamen sees an average of 25 freight trains setting out every month, with increasing number of  inbound trains to the city. (Edited by Jiang Feifan)
