MTS will introduce policy to boost community-based tourism in Thailand

September 27, 2019

Abstract : MTS plans to introduce a policy of "one major city driving one to three minor cities" by 2020 to boost community-based tourism in Thailand, said Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakan, minister of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand (MTS).

InfoQuest (September 26, 2019) -- MTS plans to introduce a policy of "one major city driving one to three minor cities" by 2020 to boost community-based tourism in Thailand, said Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakan, minister of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand (MTS). Supported by the ministry's budget, MTS will implement this policy in 77 provinces nationwide. It's expected that it will submit it to the economic cabinet meeting for review within the year, as it seeks to generate tourism revenues or sports tourism revenues for the country.

"Next year, we will implement this policy in every province to encourage them to attract tourists through demonstrating local cultural customs or other highlights. We must learn to show ourselves. Each province has its own strength in tools and talents, so we should pool and consolidate them. Our MTS's own budget is enough for implementing the policy," said Mr. Pipat.

He added that MTS will submit this policy to the economic cabinet meeting for review to brief the prime minister on programs MTS will launch for the coming year. But it may miss the imminent economic cabinet meeting, because it still needs more time for research. Still, it can certainly submit the policy to the meeting within the year.
