September 11, 2019

Abstract : Thai energy minister Sonthirat Sonthisajirawong attended the opening ceremony of the 24th World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

InfoQuest (Sept. 10, 2019) -- Energy minister Sonthirat Sonthisajirawong attended the opening ceremony of the 24th World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE. As a triennial event organized by World Energy Council (WEC), World Energy Congress serves as a stage for energy discussion, introduction of WEC's research results, and a place for energy leaders of government and private sector to create and discuss opportunities.

The energy minister also attended the Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable (AMER 8) held in September 10, 2019 in Abu Dhabi. The biennial event is launched for energy producers and consumers in Asia to discuss multiple issues, such as: the status quo of energy supply & demand and future development trend, challenges in energy security, paying greater attention to oil and natural gas, promoting the use of alternative energy, saving energy, enhancing energy use efficiency, and boosting sustainable development. This year's AMER was hosted by UAE and co-hosted by India.

Coming with the theme "Energy Security in the Age of Change: Empowering Responsible Growth in Asia and the World", the 8th AMER is designed to discuss on various problems related to energy market security, the role of modern technology, and offering safe energy services with reasonable prices.

The energy minister was invited to deliver a speech titled "Advancing Inclusive Access to Secure, Affordable and Sustainable Energy Service", which will serve as a key stage for Thailand to promote its "Energy For All" strategy. The core of the strategy is to manage energy and offer access to energy to all, reduce energy cost, and ensure stable and user-friendly energy supply. The strategy is rolled out for two objectives: first, to build confidence for investors; second, to boost economic development at community level, generate income and cut expenditure for the people, develop energy business by harnessing the purchasing power of the people, and enhance energy competitiveness in the future.

It is expected that attending the AMER will facilitate international energy cooperation in Asia and other regions, such as saving oil, coal, power, renewables, and other energy resources, and enhance the efficiency of energy use. The meeting also exists as a stage for attendees to discuss on Asia's energy situations and energy development trend, and alternative new energy. What's more, the meeting has also offered opportunities for Thailand to display its energy policies and meet leaders and senior managers of other countries, and will contribute to bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the future.
