CHANGCHUN, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The 1st Northeast Asia E-Commerce Summit & 5th China (Changchun) E-commerce Industry Summit, an important economic and trade activity during the 12th China-Northeast Asia Expo, was held in Changchun, capital city of northeast China's Jilin province on August 24 with the theme of "Brainstorming on E-Commerce in Northeast Asia".

E-commerce is a revolution to circulation, noted Fang Aiqing, deputy director of the economic committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, noting that e-commerce breaks down geographical and time limits, optimizes resource allocation and promotes win-win cooperation, trade digitization as well as economic globalization.

According to Fang, in recent years, China's e-commerce led the world in terms of scale, quality, efficiency and influence. In 2018, the number of on-line shopping users reached 610 million with e-commerce transactions totaling 31.6 trillion yuan, more than 9 trillion yuan of which come from online retail sales.

Meanwhile, China has been deepening cooperation with Belt and Road countries in e-commerce and signed memorandum of understanding on e-commerce cooperation with 19 countries such as Vietnam, Russia, New Zealand, Brazil and Italy, since 2016, according to Zhu Lian, deputy inspector of e-commerce department under the Ministry of Commerce.

The host province Jilin, which is located in the geographic center of Northeast Asia, attaches great importance to the construction of Digital Jilin. The province's cross-border e-commerce retail exports witnessed more than 30 percent growth for five consecutive years, according to Hou Ximin, deputy governor of Jilin provincial government.

The Ministry of Commerce will further strengthen cooperation among governments, sealing e-commerce cooperation documents while advance the development of e-commerce demonstration cities, demonstration bases and cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilots, Zhu said.

Delegates from the Republic of Korea (ROK), Russia, Japan and other countries at the meeting believed that the e-commerce industry of countries in Northeast Asia boasts vast potential and huge space for cooperation.

The rapid development of e-commerce industry could effectively boost economic and trade development in Northeast Asia, according to representatives of Chinese enterprises at the conference.

Northeast Asian countries such as ROK, Japan and Russia enjoy solid internet economy conditions, according to Xing Yue, vice president of Alibaba Group, noting that cross-border e-commerce platforms can provide precise market entrance. 85 percent of the commodities entering China are via cross-border e-commerce platforms based on figures by Tmall International, Xing said.

Cross-border e-commerce now upgrades to 3.0 era with key Internet enterprises plowing overseas markets featuring expanding online business scope and catalogue varieties, said Long Baozheng, vice president of JD.

Jilin could research more on demand of its enterprises and cooperate with cross-border e-commerce platforms to fuel development of local economy, said Zhu Zheng, senior director of Beijing public affairs representative of Pinduoduo.
