N China's Tianjin join hands with State Grid to promote smart grid construction

August 16, 2019

Abstract : The municipal government of North China's Tianjin city has signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Wednesday with China's national electricity utility State Grid to build the first "three-type, two-network" smart grid in the country, facilitating Tianjin's high-quality development.

BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The municipal government of North China's Tianjin city has signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Wednesday with China's national electricity utility State Grid to build the first "three-type, two-network" smart grid in the country, facilitating Tianjin's high-quality development.

At the beginning of this year, State Grid put forward the strategic goal of constructing world-class "three-type, two-network" grids, where the three types refer to hub type, platform type and sharing type, and two networks refers to strong smart grid and ubiquitous electric Internet of Things (IoT).

Deepening the construction of a strong smart grid and ensuring urban energy security is one of the core contents of the two sides' agreement. According to the agreement, State Grid will take up the construction of the ultra-high voltage (UHV) grid to enhance the external power-receiving capacity of the power grid in Tianjin, specifically, to build a 500 kV double-ring network, striving to create a reliable world-class power grid.

The construction of a ubiquitous electric IoT is also a key area of the cooperation.

The ubiquitous electric IoT is a smart service system that uses modern information technologies such as mobile Internet and artificial intelligence (AI) to realize the interconnection of things and human-computer interaction in all aspects of the power system.

Wang Xudong, senior manager at the Tianjin branch of the State Grid Corporation, said that the group will promote the deep integration of modern information and communication technologies, such as 5G, and the power grid in Tianjin, the application of cutting-edge technologies such as smart measurement, power distribution IoT, and virtual power plants, and the construction of two types of business smart energy towns, which are "eco-livable" type and "industry-city intensive" type.

The two sides also confirmed to launch the construction of an urban energy big data center and a operation center of the electric power in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, to realize the sharing of the data of electricity, gas and other energy with that of the Sky Net and municipal governments, promoting the integration of smart energy and urban infrastructure to create a "base" for smart city construction.

In addition, the two sides will accelerate the substitution of electric energy by clean energy, improve the level of urban electrification, create a first-class power business environment, and build an industrial base of robots for power distribution networks.
