Haikou starts NEV charging facility construction, to meet 10,000+ electric vehicle charging needs

Abstract : Haikou, capital city of south China’s Hainan province on Thursday kicked off construction of the new energy vehicle (NEV) charging infrastructure facility project, aiming to meet charging demand of about 11,105 electric vehicles by the end of this year.

BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Haikou, capital city of south China’s Hainan province on Thursday kicked off construction of the new energy vehicle (NEV) charging infrastructure facility project, aiming to meet charging demand of about 11,105 electric vehicles by the end of this year.

With total investment amounting to 144 million yuan, the project involves installation of 2,221 charging poles spreading mostly in the city’s Longhua, Xiuying, Meilan, Qiongshan districts, according to a report by Hainan Daily.

The charging facilities would be mainly installed in parking lots of public service areas such as parks, hospitals and governmental organizations with construction period scheduled from July to this December.

The NEV charging facility construction project was part of the fifth batch of the Hainan Free Trade Zone construction program and one of the 96 projects that broke ground on Thursday in cities and counties of Hainan with a total investment of 37.2 billion yuan.

Specifically, the 96 projects include 35 industrial development projects with investment of 17.3 billion yuan, 32 infrastructure upgrading projects with investment of 10.7 billion yuan and 29 public welfare projects with investment of 9.2 billion yuan. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
